Capitol Pathways End of Session Celebration

Join us and keynote speaker, Shawntera Hardy, Commissioner of the MN Department of Employment and Economic Development as we celebrate a successful second year for the Minnesota Capitol Pathways internship program for college students of color. For the 2017 Legislative Session, 34 interns are being hosted by a variety of government officials, agencies, nonprofits, and lobbying firms. Our 33 host organizations include the Office of the Secretary of State, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources, the Minnesota Housing Finance Agency, the City of Minneapolis, the Minnesota Private College Council, Fredrikson & Byron, P.A., Fresh Energy, the Minnesota Council of Nonprofits, NAMI Minnesota, Lutheran Social Service, Xcel Energy and others. This internship program has been created with the understanding that, to build a strong state, Minnesota government and the people who run it must be representative of the diversity of the state. The program seeks to open access to the Minnesota Capitol to the next generation of leaders of color. Through this program, interns will build relationships with established capitol leaders, gain exposure to various kinds of careers in policy, get real-world experience in career fields they would like to learn more about and build strong professional resumes in the process.
