SUMMARY:Black Middle Neighborhoods in Legacy Cities: Challenges\, Opportunities and Strategies--Part Two: Strategies
DESCRIPTION:Co-sponsored by the Middle Neighborhoods Community of Practice and the Center for Community Progress\n\n \nIn Part One\, Alan Mallach and Nedra Sims Fears address the history of the Black middle neighborhood in America's legacy cities\, the forces impeding their success\, and the implications of their unequal recovery on the wealth of Black households and the health of cities. In Part Two\, we will move from the unique challenges and opportunities faced by Black middle neighborhoods to strategies for their stabilization and revival\, with examples of equity-focused stabilization efforts in Shaker Heights and Baltimore.\n\n Kamla Lewis: Kamla is the Director of Neighborhood Revitalization for the City of Shaker Heights\, Ohio\, a first ring suburb of Cleveland. Kamla is a national leader in market-driven strategy to reestablish the relevance of older suburbs to today's homebuyers and quality landlords.\n\n Alan Mallach: Alan is a Non-Resident Fellow at the Center for Community Progress and has written several recent research papers on Black middle neighborhoods in legacy cities for the Middle Neighborhoods Community of Practice and others. He is a former Housing Director for the City of Trenton\, New Jersey.\n\n Johnette Richardson: Johnette is the Deputy Director of Operations for Neighborhood Housing Services of Baltimore\, and the former Executive Director for Belair-Edison Neighborhood Inc.\, where she pioneered many innovative strategies for stabilizing Black middle neighborhoods in Baltimore.\n\nJoin us for Middle Neighborhoods 101: If you would like to learn more about middle neighborhoods in general and the Middle Neighborhoods Community of Practice\, join us at 11:00 EDT the same day for Middle Neighborhoods 101.
